This fall, Husarion is excited to exhibit and engage in an idea exchange during the 2023 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2023) in Detroit, USA.

Held from October 1-5, IROS is a forum for the international robotics research community, emphasizing future directions and the latest approaches, designs, and outcomes. The theme of IROS 2023, “The Next Generation of Robotics,” will be reflected in plenary and keynote talks, workshops, tutorials, forums, competitions, tours, technical sessions, and… exhibitor stands.

Drop by our booth 418 to see our products in action:

  • Panther - an industrial grade outdoor AMR, this time with a docking station and a web user interface in Foxglove,
  • ROSbot XL - a universal, ROS 2-native mobile robot platform, showcasing autonomous mapping & navigation and mobile manipulation with OpenMANIPULATOR-X,
  • Husarnet - a low-latency peer-to-peer VPN for next gen robotic fleets.

Panther

Panther is an industrial grade, professional UGV designed with an outdoor environment in mind, running on ROS/ROS 2. Thanks to the resistant external mounting rails and highly modular electronic design, Panther can be easily integrated with various components to perform advanced tasks in a wide range of industries, including logistics, agriculture, construction and inspection. Four powerful BLDC motors with encoders, providing separate drive for each wheel with an open source ROS driver, enable the user to adjust the control algorithm for non-standard environment and allow Panther to operate in challenging and diverse terrain.

This time, we decided to showcase Panther integrated with Ouster LIDAR and Luxonis camera. We will also present a new configuration soon to be available with Panther - a docking station with contactless charging based on WiBotic technology.

We have also introduced a web-based user interface for Panther based on Foxglove that allows you to control and visualize the robot without installing ROS on your computer. Check out the short preview below and don’t forget to visit our booth 418 at IROS to see Foxglove running live on Panther.

ROSbot XL

IROS 2023 will be a chance to see our new ROSbot XL in action. Released October 2022, ROSbot XL is a compact and universal, ROS2-native autonomous mobile robot designed for R&D, rapid prototyping and custom robot development for indoor use cases.

The robot provides a high-capacity power supply and computing platform flexibility, allowing easy replacement of the default Single Board Computer (Intel NUC, Raspberry Pi 4 or Nvidia Jetson) with any other SBC depending on the demands of specific use cases. ROSbot XL also has an independent motor with an encoder for each wheel. Thanks to this feature, its regular wheels can be easily replaced with mecanum ones, enabling the robot to move in any direction.

And here’s a short introduction so you’ll know what you will see at our booth.

First of all, we will showcase autonomous navigation based on the rosbot-xl-autonomy repo, which is just one of the software and firmware packages available for ROSbot XL, based on popular projects from the ROS 2 ecosystem like: Nav2, Slam toolbox, ROS control or micro-ROS.

We will also show the recently introduced mobile manipulation setup for ROSbot XL with OpenMANIPULATOR-X, using our software package based on ros2_control (for controlling Dynamixel servos) and MoveIt 2 (for preparing motion plans).

Check out the video below to see a short preview of controlling the manipulator using a gamepad and MotionPlanning RViz plugin 👇

Husarnet

All of the demos mentioned above can work both in LAN and over the Internet thanks to Husarnet - a low-latency peer-to-peer VPN that enables direct communication between devices, including robots, laptops, servers, and microcontrollers, without the need for a central server to forward traffic.

Husarnet works with ROS out of the box with zero configuration, making it an ideal tool for remote robot control and management of robotic fleets, with a focus on security, reliability, and minimal reconfiguration time. You can find easy step-by-step guides on using Husarnet with ROS and ROS 2 on Husarnet website.

Summary

That’s it!

We hope you’ll swing by our booth 418 at IROS to see our robots in action and chat about:

  • Panther - an industrial grade, professional UGV for outdoor environments
  • ROSbot XL - autonomous mobile robot for R&D and custom indoor use cases
  • Creating next generation decentralized robotic fleets with Husarnet, a low-latency peer-to-peer VPN for next-gen robotic fleets.
